Over the years I have grown to be a huge lover of handmade local pottery pieces. I am not one to spend lots of money on anything, mainly because I can't. Truthfully, I often shop the "oops" shelves for pieces that didn't quite make the cut of what the artist had envisioned. These pieces are typically the ones that make my soul sing. Perhaps in every aspect of life, I most often find myself rooting for the underdog. I currently am the proud owner of a bowl that doesn't sit quite right which makes it absolutely perfect for a succulents planter, a mug that the handle is every so slightly mishappen, and several other lovelies that I wouldn't trade for the world. Every now and then, I find a particular artist or a special piece that I am willing to dive into my "rainy day jar" for, and today I am sharing exactly that. This beauty is made by the sweetest of sweet, Ms. Rachel Vandivort, the owner/operator, kick ass clay thrower of RV Pottery in Nashville TN. Rachel is a super talented gal who not only creates one of a kind custom pieces, but she keeps all of the materials used to create her little pieces of pottery heaven in their natural state which allows for a truly authentic piece. With no pun intended, I would like to throw in (see what I did there), that all of her materials are handmade on site, from the clay, right down to the glazes. All of these details, make having one of her pieces super special for me. If pottery makes you swoon, you should follow her on Instagram at rv_pottery and also browse around her lovely Etsy store here. You will not be disappointed.
